In this short sermon, we are going to see what it means to love your neighbor as yourself as written in (Mathew 22:39)
Bible Verse.
“And the second is like it: you shall love your neighbor as you love yourself.’ .
(Mathew 22:39)
What does the quote love your neighbor as yourself mean?
The bible quote “love your neighbor as yourself” simply means you should treat other human beings the way you treat yourself.
It is sad to discover that most people do not even love themselves, and talk less of loving God and others.
Because how can someone who does not love himself know how to love God and his neighbor?
Therefore, you must first start by loving yourself in order to know how to love God and your neighbor.
So the question goes: how do we know that people do not love themselves?
Anybody who sins against his body i.e. engaging in activities that are harmful to his health and or well-being; (both internally and externally), does not and can never prove that he loves himself.
For instance, engaging in fornication and adultery will expose you to so many dangers like jealousy and heartbreaks which can lead to suicide or murder, and sexually transmitted diseases that if it doesn’t kill can render a man impotent and a woman unable to conceive, unwanted pregnancy and abortion which if it doesn’t kill can cause a woman the loose of her womb.
Plus several other dangers you can possibly think of.
So if you truly love yourself, you need to flee from every manner of sin.
