In this short sermon, we are going to see what our Lord Jesus talks about in the weightier matters of the law which are justice and mercy, and faith.
And as usual, let us outline the bible verse where we derived this sermon.
Bible Verse.
Woe to you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and anise and cumin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone.
(Mathew 23:23)
What are the weightier matters of the Law?
The weightier matters of the law are simply justice and mercy and faith as our Lord Jesus clearly say in the bible verse above.
There are Christians who hold the view that Christ had abolished the idea of tithes, but the above scripture reveals that we must pay tithe as well as observe the weightier matter of the law: Justice, mercy annd faith.
As a matter of fact, our lack of paying tithes has made God’s blessings to look another way from us:
“Will a man rob God?Yet you have robbed Me! But you say, ‘In what way have we robbed You?’ In tithes and offerings. You are cursed with a curse, For you have robbed Me, Even this whole nation. Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this,” Says the Lord of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there will not be room enough to receive it.
Malachi 3:8-10.
Consequently, we should all endeavour as Christians to make the paying of tithes one of our goal in life.
