In this short sermon, we are going to see the meaning of deny yourself, take up your cross and follow me as recorded in Mathew 10:38.
First, let us outline the bible verse from where we derive this short sermon.
“And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me.
(Mathew 10:38)
What Does Deny Yourself, Take Up Your Cross And Follow Me Me
Deny yourself, take up your cross and follow me simply means that one should give up every worldly pursuit and bear whatever suffering will come his way in the course of following Christ.
The cross depicts suffering in Christendom, and this symbolism stems from the suffering Christ went through in carrying the cross to Golgotha where he was finally crucified.
In the above scripture, we can plainly see what the bible says about carrying your cross to follow Jesus.
Thus, the cross here symbolizes the persecutions that Christians must suffer in their bid to emulate Christ.
Who Himself makes it clear in the above scripture that whoever is not willing to carry his cross and follow hi is not worthy to be called His follower.
But the problem is that most Christians think that following Christ is all bliss.
