The bible is the Christian textbook, and like teachers are employed to explain textbooks for students in school, so does the bible require explanation.

And based on what the Bible says in Hebrews 5:12-14 that anyone who needs someone to teach him the Bible is like a child who requires milk to survive.

While solid food is for those who through practice have been able to distinguish what is good and evil from the Bible.

The former therefore is the spiritual child in this context, and I hope you know the physical child?

You can therefore use the knowledge you will gain here to explain the Bible both to the physical and spiritual child.

But first let’s outline a Bible verse that will help you to get a proper understanding to the simple explanation of the Bible.

From the above text therefore, we can come to the understanding that whosoever does not understand the Bible is ignorant like w child and for that reason the bible needs to be explained to them.

This means we should not totally accept the Bible in it’s literal form but rather seek for the meaning behind or sorrounding the text.

How To Explain The Bible To A Child.

To simply explain the bible to a physical and spiritual child, one must understand the following points:

1. Authors of the bible were inspired by God – 2 Timothy 3:16-17.
2. Stories in the bible are to serve as examples for mankind – 1 Corinthians 10:11.
3. Teachings in the bible must bring the hearer patience and encouragement – Romans 15:4.
4. You cannot explain the bible if you are carnal – 2 Peter 1:20-21.
5. The preachers (priests) were originally the ones to explain the bible – Malachy 2:7.
6. Unfortunately they failed to be honest in their duties – Malachy 2:8-9.
7. So God sends the Holy Spirit to teach mankind – 1 John 2:26-27.

As we said in our introductory section, the bible can be likened to text books and literal materials used in schools.

And as we all know, after this text books or literal materials are written by their authors and made available to students; tutors will be employed in order to teach i.e. explain the textbooks for the students to understand.

In other words, without a teacher, it will be hard for the students to understand their subjects; and be able to pass the tests and exams, that will promote them to the next class until they finally graduate.

That also is the same way after the bible was written by those whom God inspired; preachers are then called by God to explain the bible for people to understand.

This is why the psalmists sung in an earlier passage of our opening text:

Explain your law to me, and I will obey it; I will keep it with all my heart.

Psalm 119:34

As we can confirm above, it is the proper explanation of the bible that will help the one who listens to it obey it; or put it into practice.

1. Authors of the bible were inspired by God.

Those who wrote the books of the bible are not really their authors, because they were inspired by God.

And the reason God inspired them was for giving mankind instructions on how to live on earth, as well as rebuke errors, correct faults and give instructions for right living.

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

2 Timothy 3:16-17.

2. Stories in the bible are to serve as examples for mankind.

All that transpired between God and humans, and were written down in the scriptures; are meant to serve as an example for God’s people from generation to generation.

Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.

1 Corinthians 10:11.

3. Teachings in the bible must bring the hearer patience and encouragement.

The teachings from the scriptures will give the hearer or believer patience and encouragement.

For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.

Romans 15:4.

4. You cannot explain the bible if you are carnal.

The scriptures cannot be explained carnally, but only through the Spirit of God.

Remember, the authors of the biblical books were inspired by God, hence they did not write from their own human idea or wisdom.

And for that reason, it is the God who will help people to interpret the bible.

knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

2 Peter 1:20-21.

5. The preachers (priests) were the ones to explain the bible.

Same as teachers are employed to explain textbooks and literal texts in schools, the priests (pastors, evangelists etc) are set aside by God to explain the word of God.

“For the lips of a priest should keep knowledge, And people should seek the law from his mouth; For he is the messenger of the Lord of hosts.

Malachy 2:7

6. Unfortunately they failed to be honest in their duties.

Problem arose because the above priests, pastors, evangelists etc have failed in their duty of explaining the word of God to people and in so doing received a curse.

But you have departed from the way; You have caused many to stumble at the law. You have corrupted the covenant of Levi,” Says the Lord of hosts. “Therefore I also have made you contemptible and base Before all the people, Because you have not kept My ways But have shown partiality in the law.”

Malachy 2:8-9.

7. God sends the Holy Spirit to teach mankind.

And for that reason, God has sent the Holy Spirit directly to teach those who will pay attention to his words and turn from their sinful ways.

These things I have written to you concerning those who try to deceive you. But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.

1 John 2:26-27

Conclusion

From the understanding we finally gather from the above scripture, believers do not need to depend on the so-called men of God in order to explain the bible.

Rather they should seek for the Holy Spirit Who will directly teach them according to the promise:

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

John 14:26

And the only way to receive the Spirit of God is by listening to him and turning from and forsaking our sinful ways.

Turn at my rebuke; Surely I will pour out my spirit on you; I will make my words known to you.

Proverbs:1:23.

Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Acts 2:38.

Therefore, you must tell the physical child to avoid living a sinful life if he wants to grow in the wisdom of God that will help him understand the Bible.

While the spiritual child must forsake their sinful ways, turn to God and get the baptism of fire that will help him receive the spirit of God that will enable him to understand the Bible.
