Today is Sunday, 20 of March in the year 2022, and our bible verse of the day will be taken from the book of Amos 5:22.
Though ye offer me burnt offerings and your meat offerings, I will not accept them: neither will I regard the peace offerings of your fat beasts.
Our bible verse for today Sunday 20 March 2022 raises the question what pleases God according to the bible?
The conventional believe in Christendom is that what we can do or give to God in the church is what pleases God.
For example, going to church regularly, sweeping the church, singing in the choir, preaching, paying tithes and offerings etc.
This was the same attitude of the Jews from Judaism where Christianity birth from.
They thought when they offer sacrifices on the altar, or pay their tithes and offering, offer their first born sons to serve in the temple, that they have pleased God.
But in our bible verse for today we see how God rejects those things, and if we access it from the context we discover what God said in full to the Prophet Amos: “I hate, I dispise your feast days, and I do not savor your sacred assemblies. Though you offer Me burnt offerings and your grain offerings, I will not accept them, nor will I regard your fattened peace offerings. Take away from Me the noise of your songs, for I will not hear the melody of your stringed instruments.
Another prophet, Micah said: With what shall I come before the Lord,And bow myself before the High God? Shall I come before Him with burnt offerings, With calves a year old? Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams, Ten thousand rivers of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, The fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? (Micah 6:6-7)
Now let’s move on to see the answes both prophets gave about what pleases God.
What pleases God according to Prophet Amos and Micah.
Prophet Amos reveals in verse 24 of the above chapter that it is justice and righteousness that pleases God.
While Prophet Micah reveals in Verse 8 of his chapter that the Lord requires justice, mercy and humility.
And from both prophets we can conclude that the following are what pleases God:
