Today is Wednesday, August 24, 2022, and our bible verse of the day will be taken from the book of 2 Samuel 18:33.
The king was shaken. He went up to the room over the gateway and wept. As he went, he said: “O my son Absalom! My son, my son Absalom! If only I had died instead of you—O Absalom, my son, my son!
King David had just lost the son he loved the most, Absolom.
And here he was weeping and wishing he was the one who died instead of him.
But then, Absolom was just paying the price of going against the commands of God in the Bible’s touch, not my anointed and doing my prophets no harm.
David was God’s anointed, and Absolom was seeking to kill him and take over his throne.
But what makes this story complicated is the fact that Absolom was just a victim of God’s curse upon his father, David.
Because after David killed Uriah and took over his wife, Bathsheba; God placed a curse that the sword shall never depart from his household.
And Absolom was the first manifestation of this curse.
Now this story teaches us that we should avoid the sin of adultery and murder, and every other sin at all cost; because they will make us lose those things we love so dearly.
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.
Let us then hold on to Jesus as the only gift given by God to lead us to eternal life.
Pray that God should lift every curse and covenant upon your lineage today in Jesus name. Amen.
