Today is Saturday, 2 April in the year 2022, and our bible verse of the day will be taken from the book of Luke 17:4.
And if he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times in a day returns to you, saying, ‘I repent,’ you shall forgive him.Luke 17:4.
As we all know, it is not only God who is in the position to forgive as human beings also have the right to forgive each other.
According to the bible in Job 35:6-7, our good and evil deeds will never benefit or affect God in anyway.
Rather, it is our fellow human beings who either benefits or suffers from our wrong doings.
And at times we become victims of these wrong doings, and those who have wronged us comes seeking for our forgiveness.
And according to the advice our Lord Jesus gives in our Bible verse for today, we must always forgive them when they do so.
He even calls on us to do so seven times each day on a particular person.
Some people might see this as allowing someone take advantage of them.
That is to say, the person you forgive seven times will see it a privilege to continue offending you; knowing you will always forgive.
But my own opinion on this issue is that there is no possibility of someone offending us and seeking for forgiveness; even up to two times a day.
When you forgive someone once, he or she will try as much as possible to avoid doing what will offend you a second time.
Our Lord Jesus knew about this before he made the above statement.
Let us therefore be reminded of what our Lord Jesus says in Mathew 6:14 that if we don’t forgive those who tresspass against us, the heavenly Father will never forgive us.
