Today is Friday, 1st of April in the year 2022, and our bible verse of the day will be taken from the book of 2 Corinthians 6:14.
Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?2 Corinthians 6:14.
So many Christians often misconstrue this scripture with the fact that they should not associate with believers.
But if we see this scripture in that light, then how are we going to convert those unbelievers without being unequally yoked with them?
What being unequally yoked with unbelievers mean.
To understand what being unequally yoked with unbelievers mean, we need to use our recommended method to interpret the Bible.
That is, reading the Bible in it’s context or entirety.
When we study the context of the above passage, we realize that the writer, Paul makes mention of idols.
He says, “and what agreement has the temple of God with idols”.
This then helps us to understand that there were believers who were joining the pagans to practice idol worship.
That is why Paul urges them in verse 17 to come out from among them and be separate.
And refrain from touching what is ritually unclean, so that God can accept them.
With the knowledge we have gained so far, we can then draw a conclusion on the understanding that being unequally yoked with unbelievers mean we should not follow them to do way they are doing.
Rather, we should make it a point of duty to show then reasons why they should not love the way they are living.
